OXFORD – The Oxford Police Department responded to a public domestic dispute that transpired in front of the fire station Monday, which involved a stroller being tipped over and passing motorists being yelled at after they stopped to help.
Oxford Police Chief Richard Nolan said Shawn Cummings, 31, and Rebecca Johnson, 18, both of 16 Merchant St., Oxford, were charged with endangering the welfare of a child and disorderly conduct after the two allegedly tipped over a stroller with their two-month-old baby during a fight on the sidewalk.
Nolan said Johnson was holding the stroller when Cummings went to grab her; a brief struggle ensued which resulted in the baby being tipped over while still in its seat, he said.
A passing motorist who witnessed the scene unfold decided to pull his vehicle over to check the child’s welfare and offered assistance to the couple, said Nolan.
