Dear Maggie,
I’ve been wanting to buy a car for a long time, and my brother has offered to sell me his. My problem is that it’s an older car, and while it’s running fine now, who knows what might lie ahead? The price is certainly right. He’s giving it to me for less than the book value. (I checked.) But my father says I should never do business with family members – that it isn’t worth the stress it can put on my relationship with my brother – which is a good one.
What’s your advice?
Signed,
Temporarily Car-less
