Greene 47, Sidney 20

GREENE – On homecoming weekend, Greene virtually spurned the passing game, and racked up a season-best 422 rushing yards to stay on course for a Class C playoff spot.

Three Greene backs rushed for over 100 yards, the first time that has occurred in one game under head coach Tim Paske, and the total rushing yards is the largest in the Greene mentor’s seven-year tenure.

After a Sidney turnover in the opening moments of the game, Scott Gorton connected with younger brother Kyle Gorton on a 20-yard scoring toss. That would be the lone completion for the Trojans, who came in averaging over 150 yards of passing offense per game.

Sidney, instead, received a steady dose of Trojans running backs Tyler Beckwith, Dan Jenks, and Nick Wilcox.

Jenks had scoring runs of 36 and two yards in the first half to give Greene a 20-8 halftime lead.

Wilcox added third-quarter TD runs of 27 and three yards in the second half, while Beckwith scored on a one-yard run, and Kurt Shear capped the scoring with a two-yard dandy.

Wilcox rushed for 121 yards on just six carries. Jenks had 110 on 12 totes, and Beckwith 104 yards. For the game, Greene averaged nearly 10 yards per carry.

Sidney’s Dylan Umbra had 64 yards rushing and 51 passing to pace his club.

Greene (5-1) plays at Chenango Forks (6-0) on Saturday.
