Norwich 94, Greene 89
GREENE – Greene won more of the battles, but it was Norwich that won the war.
In a non-league meet between local rivals, Norwich used a sweep in the 500-yard freestyle to grab a 13-point lead, and hang on for its third win of the season.
Greene (7-0, 8-2) won nine of 12 events including all three relays and the last four events. “What a great meet,” said Greene coach Mike Platta summing up what he had just witnessed. “We made a great run at them the last few events, but we could not match them depth-wise. Norwich has some good, young swimmers.”
Makenzie Williams, Kerstin Franklin, and Erin Gawronski had wins for Norwich, and it was Gawronski who led the one-two-three finish for the Tornado in the 500.
Jessica Brooks, Katie Crowe, Jessica Treadwell, Jenny Yeager, Leah Kazalski, Emily Bertram had multiple wins for Greene as individuals or as part of a victorious relay.
“We did have a lot of personal bests tonight,” Platta said. “Even though we were swimming back-to-back meets, we came out ready. It was senior night, and there was a lot of emotion on the deck and surrounding the meet. The focus was there. My hat is off to Norwich and Coach (Amanda) Downey. She is doing a fantastic job.”
Greene (7-0, 8-2) is at Sherburne-Earlville Friday.
