DELHI –Needing a victory in the final event, Greene edged out Delhi in the 400-yard freestyle relay, and did so with the second fastest time in school history.
Jessica Treadwell, Leah Kazalski, Jessica Brooks, and Katie Crowe finished just ahead of Delhi in 4:06.24 to wrap up the MAC team title Friday night.
“This was such an exciting meet, the best I’ve been involved with,” said Greene head coach Mike Platta. “We talked about leagues being our ultimate goal, and when we needed fast swims, (our team) stepped right up and did it.”
The Trojans, who were unbeaten in division matchups this year, were down 26 points to the Bulldogs after four events. Kazalski helped ignite the comeback winning the diving competition in an 11-dive school-record, 262.90 points.
The Trojans began a four-event streak of wins to end the meet with the 200-free relay. Brooks and Crowe took the backstroke and breaststroke events respectively setting up the final race. Heading into the last event, Greene led Delhi by a scant two points. A win in the event stretched the final margin of victory to eight points, and a runner-up finish in the event would have resulted in a four-point deficit.
