OXFORD – Sunday, Oct. 25 was a beautiful day for the Oxford Lions Halloween Costume Parade held indoors at the Oxford Fire Station. There were some very creative costumes this year, making it a very difficult task for the judges to choose prize winners. Oxford Lion, DJ Jim Baldwin was back again with his bigger than ever (sound) castle as a wonderful backdrop for the competing youth.
Lion Jim Baldwin was both DJ and emcee announcing each grade category and keeping things lively. The contestants marched behind their Lion leader, around the room and past the judges. The difficult job of judging the costumes was done by Oxford Academy High School National Honor Society student volunteers: Charlene Beckwith, Becky Allen, Allie Nelson and Kalah Parks. While the judges were deliberating, DJ Jim kept the party atmosphere going with spooky themed music. The break also afforded everyone with time to take plenty of great pictures and enjoy cider, candy and donuts.
The winners were: Pre-K: 1st place – Ethan Hodge as Thomas the Tank Engine, 2nd place –Jessup as a Fire Truck and 3rd place – Grace as a Bumble Bee.
K-1st grades: 1st place – Cooper Rice as a Fox Dirt Bike Rider, 2nd place – Ethan Ehly as Superman and 3rd place – Emma Hodge as a Mermaid.
