CANASTOTA – The Cyclones’ “C” team downed undefeated Cazenovia, 13-0, in the Tri-Valley League championship game Saturday.
The Cyclones scored early on a six-play 65-yard opening drive set up by a 44-yard Cole Rifanburg scamper. Rifanburg took it in from the one, with Carter Hubbard adding the conversion run.
Norwich did not see the ball again for offense for over a quarter as the Lakers mounted a long, substantial drive with the Cyclones finally holding at their 10.
They held again in the second quarter at the 16 for a 7-0 halftime lead.
Cazenovia took the second-half kickoff and mounted another drive deep into Cyclones territory, once again, to be stopped by the Cyclones.
Dalen Geislinger got the Cyclones out of trouble with a 52-yard run, and Geislinger scored later on a one-yard run in the fourth.
The Cyclones’ defense played big with the time of possession weighing heavily in favor of the Lakers. Hubbard, Rifanburg, Alex Wehrli, Ben Scheer, Marcus Benjamin, Cameron Ivan, Paden Burlison, and Austin Hendrickson, among others, played big “D.” Matthew Tubbs and Geislinger made big fourth-down stops deep in Cyclones territory to help the Cyclones end their season at 8-1.
