GREENE – A quick five-point spurt by the host Trojans allowed them to hold off a fourth-quarter rally by the Bobcats, and cinch up an opening-game win on Wednesday.
The Bobcats trimmed an eight-point Greene lead to three scoring the first five points of the final stanza. Brian Day canned a three ball with 3:30 left in the game – Greene’s first points of the quarter – to double the lead. Alex Driscoll stole the ensuing inbounds pass, and Brendan Kinne hit a driving layup racheting the Greene comfort zone back to eight points.
“B-G is a well-coached team and plays good defense,” said Greene coach Jeff Paske. “We were able to create some turnovers, and made some key plays when we needed to.”
Kinne had 12 points to lead the Trojans, and forward Mark McDermott added 11.
Steve Patten paced the Bobcats scoring 13 points.
Greene hosts Harpursville Friday at 8:45 p.m. in the first round of its tip-off tournament.
