Greene 61, Unatego 55
GREENE – Greene reached the finals of its own Holiday Showcase dealing Unatego its second loss of the season on Tuesday night.
Scott Gorton’s three-pointer early in the fourth quarter gave Greene the lead for good, 45-44. Unatego was within 54-53 in the last 90 seconds when a Gorton layup, a Greene defensive stop, and a Mark McDermott hoop created some breathing room.
Gorton finished with 24 points, and McDermott scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Unatego held a 36-34 lead at halftime receiving 15 points from Cody Comenda. Comenda had just two points after halftime.
“We did a much better job defensively in the second half,” said Greene coach Jeff Paske. “We’re similar teams, the difference is that we had Mark on the inside. It’s good to get to the finals with a chance to win it. We’ve haven’t won this tournament before.”
The Trojans meet Dryden tonight at 8:30 p.m.
