Dryden 61, Greene 39
GREENE – Dryden’s zone defense forced Greene into a season-high 26 turnovers, and the Lions roared to the Greene Holiday Showcase tournament title on Wednesday.
Dryden expanded an eight-point halftime lead to 18 after three periods with relentless work on the offensive boards, while also making life difficult for the Greene offense.
Andrew Horton scored all five of his points in the third, all coming after steals, and four other players had buckets including a pair of baskets from tournament MVP, Dan Holland.
“They hit the boards hard, and it seemed like we were in position. They just went after the ball,” said Greene coach Jeff Paske. “Give Dryden credit. They have a senior-laden team with just one loss. It was a good tournament for us. We had a nice win over Unatego yesterday, and then we had a good test against a quality Class B school.”
Mark McDermott scored seven points and pulled down 13 rebounds to earn all-tournament honors. Scott Gorton had a two-day point total of 30 points, and was also named to the all-tournament team.
