SIDNEY – A fundraiser to assist an injured soldier, and Afton graduate, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sidney American Legion.
Spc. Matthew Cooke, a victim of the Nov. 5 Fort Hood, Texas shooting, is currently undergoing a long rehabilitation due to injuries he sustained when Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire in a processing center, killing 13 people and wounding 30, according to Legion member Larry Halbert.
Halbert reported that during the shooting, Cooke crawled to another wounded soldier and covered his body, saving his life.
