GEORGETOWN – The Otselic Valley Board of Education discussed potential changes to its 2010-2011budget Wednesday, including staff reductions, consolidation of the Elementary School with the Junior/Senior High School and tax levy increases.
Governor David A. Paterson, in his executive budget, has put forward a proposed $328,389 in cuts for the Otselic Valley Central School District, a 5.89 percent reduction in projected state aid for the 2010-2011 school year.
Approximately 40 residents, students and employees of the district met with the board at the Georgetown Elementary School Wednesday night to voice their thoughts and opinions on the matter, and Interim Superintendent Linda Taylor said that while “progress has been made, there’s a long way to go.”
“It’s my thought that the residents in attendance were very respectful, and the atmosphere seemed calm and controlled,” said Taylor. “We’re doing our best to be open and honest with the people, and we believe that will pay off in the end.”
