2009 was year of “new ground” for Norwich Police

NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department’s 2009 report showed a steady increase in activities across the board, highlighted by several unprecedented events in the last year.

“The year of 2009 was like none other in Norwich Police history,” said Police Chief Joseph Angelino. “During this turbulent year, the Norwich Police Department was involved in unprecedented activities; arrests were made for unusually large amounts of narcotics, four vehicles were seized along with cash assets, property and defaced firearms.”

In addition to making two separate $25,000 cocaine drug seizures in 2009, the Norwich police re-established a canine drug detection unit and received a $288,188 federal grant to fight local drug activity.

On March 27, the Norwich Police Department, with assistance from other law enforcement agencies, forced their way into two separate apartments in the City of Norwich along Plymouth Street and Hickok Avenue.

Police found the suspects at their Hickok address and discovered a stash of illegal substances and paraphernalia at the Plymouth Street apartment, including about a pound of marijuana and $14,000 in suspected drug profits.

Investigators claim the two defendants kept separate apartments – one where they lived and another allegedly used as a front to sell narcotics.
