Let’s see what’s good, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is always looking for good TV shows so we thought we would take a look at some shows that have been breakout hits and some other ones that may need some help. Your main TV guy, the Toddster, has assembled a good list including one that has long been sought by fans but has never been available until now. More on that later. Grab your remotes and the popcorn. Time to see what’s on!!
Chuck - Never underestimate the average guy. Chuck (Zachary Levi) was your average Computer technician until an Email he received changed his life forever. Turns out that Email contained all of the Government’s secrets and now his brain contains them. He’s now the #1 secret weapon going on missions with Agents Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strathoski) and John Casey (Adam Baldwin). During Season 3, Chuck managed to save Sarah and Casey from enemy agents by downloading an advanced version of the program he first received and is now on his way to becoming a real spy himself. What will happen next? See it on Monday nights at 8PM on NBC.
The Toddster’s Take - Season 3 almost didn’t happen but thanks to the fans, NBC decided to bring it back for a third season. The ratings have been up and down but if the fans are as vocal as they were before, a 4th season might not be out of the question. Seasons 1 and 2 are now available on DVD in stores now with Season 3 coming out this summer.
NCIS: Los Angeles - One NCIS team wasn’t enough. Now Gibbs’ team gets some help from the team on NCIS; Los Angeles. G Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) joined Gibbs (Mark Harmon) on a case in Los Angeles to take down terrorists last season. At the end of the case, Callen was almost killed. The ratings were so good CBS decided to give them their own show. In the first episode, Callen returns to duty just in time to help solve a kidnapping case. Can they find the child in time? Catch this one on Tuesdays at 9 PM on CBS.
The Toddster’s Take - Spinoffs are always a tricky proposition. Sometimes they don’t always work. However, sometimes they do. O’Donnell and LL Cool J have a work dynamic that works on screen and helps propel the story along and the rest of the cast is very good as well. Since it’s been in the top 10 all season, I can see it coming back in September. Season 1 will be available on DVD in Late August. Keep watching!
Burn Notice - Being good at your job might not always be a good thing. Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donavan) worked all over the World for 15 years taking down threats to our country. He’s just received a burn notice or when it means in the spy business that Michael’s been fired. Now he has to find a way to make a living helping people with his skills while trying to find out about the people who burned him and why. Along the way, he gets help from old allies Fiona Glenann (Gabrielle Anwar) and Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell). When Season 3 opens, Michael has just helped the people who burned him take down enemies in their own organization. Now he just wants to be left alone and without them, Michael’s old enemies from his spy days may just come calling. Can he do his job and keep them from killing him? The action can be seen on the USA Network Thursdays at 9 p.m.
The Toddster’s Take - Right now this show shows no signs of slowing down. Donavan plays his role brilliantly with the rest of the cast supporting him and the story with absolute ease. Season 4 begins on June 3 with Seasons 1 and 2 available now on DVD. Season 3 will be released in Late May.
Human Target - Changing jobs isn’t always an easy thing to do. Just ask Christopher Chance (Mark Valley). Chance was a Black OPS Specialist always working for the highest bidder until a job he was on went wrong and an innocent person was killed. Now, Chance is working on the side of the angels with the aid of his partners Winston (Chi Mcbride) and Guerero (Jackie Earle Haley). In the Pilot Episode, Chance has to come to the aid of a beautiful engineer (Tricia Helfer) who has built the first Bullet train for the United States. Her life has been threatened and now needs Chance to protect her and find the people who are endangering her life. Is Chance up to the job? Take a chance with this one Wednesdays at 8 PM on Fox.
The Toddster’s Take - One of my favorite shows of the season. This one was a midseason replacement but the ratings have been solid. The stories are great and the cast delivers every week. The president of the Fox Network has said recently that he would like to see Human Target return for another season. It hasn’t been confirmed yet but I think that it has a really good shot. Season 1 will be out by Late Summer.
The Six Million Dollar Man - When someone has an accident, you never know what will happen when you come out the other side. Just ask Steve Austin (Lee Majors). Austin was a test pilot testing a new space shuttle when a malfunction caused it to crash. He was critically wounded and the only way to save him was to replace some of his limbs with new bionic parts that give him increased strength and speed. Now Austin goes missions around the World of national interest. In the Pilot episode, Austin has to get used to his new abilities and rescue a kidnapped prince. Can he pull it off?
The Toddster’s Take - This show was one of my favorites when I was a kid. After years of legal battles over the rights, my sources have just confirmed that the show will be coming out on DVD in the United States for the first time. I know that I will adding this to my collection. It should be out in the Fall. The Patrol will let you know. Stay tuned!!
Our TV picks are at an end for this one. Next week we have an all new team up with the crew as we celebrate spring with some of our favorite musicals. The Toddster will return next time.
