Greene 3, Sidney 0
GREENE – Greene passed another difficult test winning its first division game of the season, while improving to 5-0 on the season Friday.
Facing a Sidney team that already has wins over Afton and Oxford, Greene chipped away with single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. “When we came in for the fourth inning, I told the girls that this is around the time we tend to pick up our offense,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “I think it’s a confidence thing facing the pitcher a second and third time.”
Errors led to Greene’s runs in the fourth and fifth, and Maureen McDermott had a key insurance RBI with a fielder’s choice in the sixth.
Those tallies were plenty enough for sophomore flamethrower Rebecca Hanrahan. Hanrahan, who had 15 total whiffs in the previous two games, fanned 15 and walked just two against a pesky Sidney offense.
“She was able to get the strikeouts today, and she did a good job mixing things up,” Smith said of Hanrahan. “I don’t know what will happen the rest of the season, but it is good to see (the team) perform so well.”
The Trojans play at Unadilla Valley Monday.
