NORWICH – The Pennysaver/Evening Sun Relay For Life team is currently selling tickets for the raffling off of a hand-made quilt, made from past Relay For Life T-shirts, and will continue to do so in the months leading up to the American Cancer Society’s July event, which has raised approximately $1.25 million locally since 1996.

Cindy Kinsey, responsible for all of the basic work and embroidery on the quilt, was assisted by fellow Afton residents Linda Scheben and Pat Wenner, who helped with the general design and the tying and binding of the donated quilt, respectively.

“Linda’s help was greatly appreciated and Pat has been making quilts forever; she’s a well-seasoned quilter,” laughed Kinsey, who’s been quilting for over 25 years.

Kinsey, who has several relatives who have successfully battled cancer, said that once all of the materials were at hand, it took the three ladies “around a week” to finish the quilt, and added that the process involved about 25 hours of labor.

“I was more than happy to do it,” she stated.

According to Relay For Life Event Manager Denise Woods, over 50 teams have committed to this year’s event, which has already raised over $16,000.

“We’re off to a good start,” said Woods, who urged the community to “get involved in any way possible.”

Tickets for the raffle are $1 apiece or 10 for $5 and can be purchased at the Norwich and Sidney Pennysavers.
