NORWICH – Twenty-seven year old Brandy Colburn, who has nearly completed her second semester at the Morrisville State College Norwich Campus, said she was caught “completely by surprise” when she found out she would be accepted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society just a day before her step-daughter, Unadilla Valley seventh grader Kathleen Manchester, will be accepted into the National Junior Honor Society.

“I think it shows just how much hard work we’ve both put forth,” said Colburn. “The entire family is so proud of her and we hope she succeeds in life, we’re all here to support her.”

According to Colburn, Manchester has “excelled at school,” and her teachers have been quick to commend her for her hard work and commitment, which “sets a great example for her younger brothers and sister.”

Manchester had nothing but praise in return for her step-mother, who’s currently pursuing an associate degree in nursing, and considered her an “inspiration.”
