NEW BERLIN – Oxford junior Katie Woodford, a state champion last year in the 400-meter dash, not only broke her own Midstate Athletic Conference record in the 100-meter race Thursday, but also broke the Section IV record.
Woodford clocked a wind-aided 11.8 seconds breaking her previous league record by six-tenths of a second. Head coach Irene DeJager said she verified the time with all of the officials at Unadilla Valley’s track. “I’m not sure where (Katie’s) time falls in the state this year, but she was flying,” DeJager said, who noted that her team’s hand-held time of 12.1 seconds was still well under the league record time.
Emily Woodford picked up three individual wins taking the 200 meters (26.3), long jump (15-7 1/2), and triple jump (32-4 1/2). Katie Woodford won the 400 meters (1:03), and the two Woodfords teamed with Jessica Russo and Amanda Marks to claim the top spot in the 400-meter relay.
Oxford will compete in the REK Invitational at Norwich Saturday at 6 p.m.
