GILBERTSVILLE – The Hilton Bloom Art Studio is opening its summer season with the exhibit In Memorium. This is a special exhibit of the artwork of the late J. Louise W. Higgins (1917-2008) and stained glass creations by the late Albert J. Caranci (1935-2009). The exhibit will open with a reception on Friday from 5 to 8 pm. The public is warmly invited to attend this party and celebration of the life and work of these artists.
J. Louise W. Higgins created art all of her life, with an emphasis on portraits. Louise completed over 500 portraits in the region, so visitors to the exhibit might recognize some familiar faces. Louise thought faces fascinating, always seeking to capture the essence of a person’s character in her work. The following quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson best summed up her philosophy: “The gods we worship write their names on our faces.” Louise had shown her award-winning art in numerous galleries throughout the region, including five solo exhibits in the course of her career. This exhibit will feature portraits and landscapes in the media of oil, pencil, charcoal and pastel.
