NORWICH – Literacy Volunteers of Chenango County is once again inviting community members to “stop by for a spell” this Saturday during the non-profit’s Scrabble® for Literacy fundraiser.
“Scrabble is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” reported LVCC Program Coordinator Kelly Sines. This installment of the event, which is held twice yearly, will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 12 at the Norwich Branch of Morrisville State College, 20 Conkey Ave. in Norwich. Teams of two to four players will compete in two 45-minute rounds of play.
Participants have the choice of classifying themselves as Beginner or Intermediate, where the competition is fun and friendly, or Advanced, where things are a little more cut-throat.
“We have a core contingent of die-hards,” Sines said with a laugh, adding that many who compete at that level are “sticklers for the rules.”
