Trooper visit Norwich driver's ed program

New York State Police Troopers Joseph Hommel and Peter Grunder visited with the 66 students participating in this year’s Driver and Traffic Safety Program in Norwich Wednesday. The officers brought with them a “roll machine” that mimics what happens to a driver when their car begins to flip. The dummies placed in the vehicle without their seat belts are often thrown from the vehicle and crushed. The classes spend six weeks with 24 hours behind the wheel of a car and 24 more inside a classroom. The courses are taught by Teachers John Mason, Dale Johnson and Jerry Locke. Mason said the program focused on driver’s attitudes and behaviors and not just their skills at passing the licensing test.
