PLYMOUTH – Lee Skillin was not able to defend his men’s member-guest title at Canasawacta Country Club in early August. While that is a team event, Skillin will surely treasure his most distinguished victory as an individual player. Skillin edged 20-time C.C.C. scratch champion Bob Branham by two strokes as the tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to poor weather.
Skillin, who has a five handicap, shot a one-under-par 141 for his two rounds, while Branham was at one-over-par and Tom Muserilli was alone in third at two-over-par.
Amy Spittler added to her record total of women’s scratch victories finishing four shots ahead of Norwich High School student Casey Marson. Spittler’s victory was the 14th of her career at C.C.C.
Skillin added the men’s handicap championship with a net 11-under-par total. Steve Trojan was three shots back at 8-under-par. Trojan, meanwhile, was tops among the senior men’s scratch and handicap divisions. The nine-handicapper shot a gross socre of 152 for his two rounds, a total that reduced to 134 including his handicap.
Jane Eaton stood alone in capturing the women’s handicap club championship with a two-day net total of 137.
