B-G 22, UV-Edmeston 13
NEW BERLIN – Not until Billy Holden’s interception return with around a minute to play did Bainbridge-Guilford finally put away a much-improved Unadilla Valley-Edmeston team on Friday night.
The Bobcats, a 2009 Class D playoff team, secured the win when Holden picked off a fourth-down pass from Storm quarterback Brandon Miles, and ran unfettered 10 yards. Danny Gormley took in a Ryan Porter pass for the all-important two-point conversion.
“It was just a slugfest,” said B-G coach Tim Mattingly summing up the game. “They (UV-E) were hyped up at the beginning. They had a big pep rally and a band…the whole deal. They marched out with 40 kids and they were stoked. We got down early, but to our credit, we were able to pull out the victory.”
B-G turned the ball over on its second offensive play of the game, and UV-E capitalized on Miles’ 10-yard TD scamper.
The Bobcats drove for the go-ahead score in the second when Dakota Vandermark rushed it in from four yards. Porter tacked on the two-point run for an 8-7 lead at the break.
Porter scored in the third on a one-yard sneak, yet UV-E answered on Brett Gage’s two-yard TD run. A missed extra point by the Storm left them one-point shy, 14-13, until Holden’s touchdown.
