GREENE – Hospice of Chenango County will bring its volunteer training course to the village of Greene for the first time. The goal is to increase the number of trained volunteers in the southern part of the county. Greene residents may not realize that they can see a doctor in Broome County and still utilize the services of Hospice of Chenango County. Those same patients often request a volunteer, and it’s easier to make a match with a patient and volunteer that live in the same community.
“We wanted to make it easy for residents in the vicinity of Greene to be trained, without them having to drive to Norwich,” said Kendall Drexler, Volunteer Coordinator for the agency. We are looking to increase our volunteer numbers in that area to serve patients and their families.” Drexler says she wants to make training as convenient as possible for our friends in Greene. Residents of Bainbridge, Brisben, and Coventry may also wish to sign up for the course in Greene and cut down on their drive time to the next Hospice training, which will take place in Norwich in the spring of 2011.
