Field Hockey
Greene 2, Marathon 1
GREENE – Facing another perennial field hockey power in Section IV, Greene was able to advance to the finals of its own tournament scoring twice in the second half to beat the Olympians.
Jahna Driscoll tallied her 27th goal of the season at the 19-minute mark, and Abbey Wentlent added insurance at 6:46. Marathon broke up the shutout scoring with 1:30 left.
“I thought we played very well, we just couldn’t seem to get the shots off, and they had their defense packed in,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “We had to make some adjustments at halftime, and we definitely did that.”
Carlin also praised her defense, and added that senior forward Andrea Day had probably her best game of the defense. “We had so many kids have many, many shining moments,” Carlin said. “When they had to come up with the plays, they did.”
Greene plays Whitney Point Saturday in the finals at 7 p.m. Whitney Point advanced with a 2-0 win over Maine-Endwell.
