OXFORD – On Sunday, Oct. 31, it was a good day for the Oxford Lions Halloween Costume Parade to be held indoors at the Oxford Fire Station. Just as it was suggested to parade outdoors, Mother Nature decided to hail, so everyone stayed put. There were some very creative costumes this year, making it a very difficult task for the judges to choose prize winners. Oxford Lion, DJ Jim Baldwin was back again as MC with his terrific (sound) castle as a wonderful backdrop for the competing youth.
Lion DJ Jim was emcee announcing each grade category and keeping things lively. The contestants marched, behind their age group Lion leader, around the room and past the judges. Lion Sigi Rademacher marched along in her farm girl costume complete with a brooding chicken on her hat.
The difficult job of judging the costumes was done by Oxford Academy High School National Honor Society student volunteers. While the judges were deliberating, DJ Jim kept the party atmosphere going with spooky themed dance music. The break also afforded everyone with time to take plenty of great pictures and enjoy apple cider and fancy donuts.
The 2010 Lions Halloween contest winners were in Pre-K, 1st place: Ethan Hodge as a Direct TV Repair Guy; 2nd place: Bryce Reynolds as an airplane; 3rd place: Madelyn Heggie as a ladybug.
