‘Tis the hunting season for The Great Unwashed. Those who caustic writer H.L. Mencken called the “booboisee.” In other words, those of the middle and working classes who don’t think the way the smarter folks do.

The President has taken a few swipes at them. John Kerry has made a habit of deriding them. Writer Nadine Parker calls Sarah Palin “Queen of the Booboisee.” Various critics label Tea Party followers as, well, dumb. 

Lately New York City Mayor Bloomberg has chimed in. He thinks some of the newly elected members of Congress “… they can’t read. I bet you a bunch of these people don’t have passports … nobody knows where China is.”  (The Mayor has decided through edict what his subjects may and may not eat. With him, it is “DON’T let them eat cake!” His latest target is canned soup. Too much salt.)

Michael Moore and entertainer Bill Maher have built careers on the premise and promise that flyover country has more boobs than ears of corn. And we are not talking about chests here.

Will Rogers said common sense ain’t so common. Peering down their snouts, the elite sigh that common people are all too common. And have no common sense to boot.
