Norwich 39, Chenango Valley 38
FENTON – Norwich dominated the lower weights and upper weights, and despite surrendering four forfeits to CV, won its second dual meet win this season. Just a week ago, Norwich overcame Johnson City by the exact score.
“It looks pretty good for us so far, and I hope we can keep it up,” said Norwich coach Joe Downey. “Giving up 24 points (to forfeits) makes it tough to come back. We’ll have to fill some of those holes, and we’ll have a couple additions for the Owego Duals next week.”
Moving up in weight were Morgan Crawford and Cody Bradbury. Crawford won a decision at 171 pounds, Bradbury pinned his opponent at 189, and Kegan Levesque clinched the win with a fall at 215 points.
“This was a tough match, and CV had a full lineup,” Downey said. “We had some guys step up. Cody continued his good wrestling, and Kegan pinned his kid to pull it out for us.”
Norwich started strong getting pins from Landon Cummings (103) and Tristan Rifanburg (112), a forfeit from Frankie Garcia (119), and John Marvin (125) won his first varsity match. Marvin pinned Chas Darling to raise Norwich’s lead to 24-0.
“We knew CV would be strong in the middle, and we didn’t match up well with them there,” Downey said. “We moved some guys around to give us some good matchups.”
