We’re getting closer, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol has been getting ready for Christmas and the New Year. The Toddster sure hopes everyone is ready or finishing up their Christmas shopping. I’ve only got a few to buy for this year and I’m getting closer to the one I really want. More on that down the road. Here are a few ideas for you.

New on DVD

The A Team - When you’re in trouble and if you can find them, you hire the A Team. We join John “Hannibal” Smith (Liam Neeson), Templeton “Face Man” Peck (Bradley Cooper), B.A Baracus (Quentin “Rampage” Jackson), and H.M Murdock (Sharlito Copley) at the beginning of their careers as they become one of the top special forces teams in the military. After a number of years go by, they are slated to go home when they are picked by General Morrison (Gerald McCraney) to rob a money shipment headed for Iraq. After they complete their mission, the guys are arrested and all the military records have gone missing that they even had a mission. They’re found guilty and sent to jail. Hannibal is always the one with the plan. They escape and decide to go after Morrison who was thought killed and now the CIA liason Lynch (Patrick Wilson) along with Army officer Clarissa Sosa (Jessica Biel) are hot on their trail. Can they find out who framed them while staying out of jail? My sources tell me that a sequel is in the works. Stay tuned!

Story Continues Below Adverts

Despicable Me - Even bad guys can have a heart of gold. Gru (Steve Carell) was one of the greatest super villains in the World. He and his team were able to steal the Times Square Jumbotron in New York City but hasn’t really done anything big in a couple of years. He hears on the news that someone has stolen the Pyramids in Egypt and now he has to go even bigger. Gru always wanted to go to the Moon but it might be easier to just steal it. To do that, he steals a shrink ray but his main competition has always been Dr. Vector and Vector steals it from him. Knowing the guy can never refuse anything sweet, Gru adopts three little girls Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Elsie Fisher). The girls are serious cookie sellers and he thinks they can distract Vector to get the shrink ray back. In the process, Gru finds out he likes having the girls around. Will the new role as a Dad make him discover there are more important things than stealing? Check out another movie along the same lines with “Megamind” now in theaters.

Also on DVD

The Town - Sticking with the bad guy theme, can love make you turn your back on a life of crime? That may just be the case with Doug (Ben Affleck). Doug comes from a tough Boston neighborhood and had one of the best bank robbing crews in the business. They were always able to get in and leave no evidence that they were ever there. During a heist, something happens and they take bank manager Claire (Rebecca Hall) hostage. Things get even worse when the crew finds out they Claire is also from the same part of Boston they are. Jem (Jeremy Renner) and Doug come up with a plan to see how much she knows about them. Doug volunteers to do it and starts to get to know her. In the process, Doug starts to fall for her and Jem thinks this needs to stop. Will Doug find a way to save Claire and can Doug sever his ties with his crew once and for all? Renner is getting to ready to play the character Hawkeye in “The Avengers” set for release in 2012. Also, Affleck can be seen with Tommy Lee Jones and Kevin Costner in “The Company Men” in theaters now.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice - Starting a new job and trying to teach one can be a bit nerve wracking. Just ask Balthazar Blake (Nicholas Cage). Balthazar was one of three wizards to learn magic from the Wizard Merlin himself. He had fought battles with his old friend Maxim (Alfred Molina) by his side. Power has a way of changing things between the best of friends. Balthazar finds a magic relic of immense power and learns that Maxim wants it for himself. After a lengthy battle, the two wizards are imprisoned inside of the relic until they are freed many centuries later. It’s a new age and Balthazar knows that he’ll need help fighting his old enemy so he decides to take on an Apprentice in the form of Dave Stutler (Jay Buruchel) Dave is just your run of the mill college student getting by. He suddenly gets drafted learning magic and he’s not sure if he can handle it. He’ll have to make up his mind pretty quick when Maxim comes after him. Will Balthazar teach him enough to win the battle ahead? Cage is currently working on the sequel to the 2005 film “Ghost Rider” and is set for release in 2011.

The Other Guys - When the heroes are doing their thing, the other guys are doing everything else. Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) was always great working in forensics but wasn’t really meant to be a street cop. Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) was a great street cop until something went wrong with a well known celebrity. The two have been paired up and are always checking out what the two top cops Highsmith (Samuel L Jackson) and Danson (Dwayne Johnson) are up to. Allen just wants his chance to show he can do. He takes Terry along for the ride after a high profile case comes across their desk. Can they do the job without killing each other and anyone else? Wahlberg can be seen in “The Fighter” with Christian Bale and Amy Adams now in theaters.

Before we go, the Toddster just wanted to send a belated Happy Birthday to one of the patrol crew and a great movie guys in his own right. Happy Birthday, Tyler! Our last team up is on the way and the Toddster’s favorites for 2010 are coming too. See you next time.
