Sherburne-Earlville 57, Mount Markham 44
WEST WINFIELD – Coming off a nine-day layoff, Sherburne-Earlville opened Center State Conference league play Wednesday night, and emerged with a road victory over a longtime rival.
“Mount Markham is a tough place to play, and we’ve had some good games with them over the years,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “To get a league win there in our first league game was good for us. We came out and played well right away.”
Randy Briggs had seven points in the opening quarter for S-E, who led 18-7 at the outset. Cole Hodges came off the bench late in the first quarter, and wound up with a season-best 13 points. Branden McDaniel added 12, and Cameron Yerton 10. Yerton also had nine rebounds. “Cole came in and gave us big minutes,” Vibbard said. “Not only scoring, but with his rebounding and playing good, solid defense.”
S-E plays at Unadilla Valley Monday at 7:45 p.m.
