Greene 56, Norwich 29
Norwich 51, Sherburne-Earlville 35
NORWICH – Norwich split a pair of dual meets at Jack Jones Gymnasium Thursday losing the opener to Greene before following up with a win over Sherburne-Earlville.
The Trojans were dominant in the middle and upper weights, and finished the match off with five straight victories. “Our guys wreslted their hearts out, and from a coach’s standpoint, I couldn’t ask any more from the Greene match,” said Norwich coach Joe Downey. “They fought and fought, even when they were put on their back. They never gave up and kept going.”
Landon Cummings (103), Tristan Rifanburg (112), Frankie Garcia (119), and Jon Marvin (125) strung wins together for Norwich, who trailed 24-23 after those victories. Another pin by Tanner Cummings (135) kept the Tornado within one at 30-29. From there, Dan Dickman (140) started the final five-match sweep for the Trojans winning by technical fall over Matt Thompson.
Early on in the dual meet, Kyle Stanton pinned Norwich’s Kegan Levesque in the 215-pound division. Stanton earned the pin at 3:57 after trailing 1-0 early in the second period. “It was an unfortunate result for Kegan. He didn’t wrestled his match, and just got caught,” Downey said. “We hope to see (Stanton) against at the Windsor Tournament, and have a different game plan.”
Norwich reversed a one-point loss to the Marauders from a year ago, picking up eight pinfall victories to improve to 5-3 on the season.
