UV Tournament Holiday Tournament
Cazenovia 53, Sherburne-Earlville 30
NEW BERLIN – Cazenovia, despite playing without top scorer Ashley Stec, rolled to the Unadilla Valley Holiday Tournament title on Tuesday night.
Raenne Clabeaux and Ellen Burr each scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Lakers. After the Marauders’ Bridget Irwin scored on a layup to give S-E an 8-7 lead, Cazenovia finished the quarter on an 6-0 spurt to grab the lead and pull away. Burr had all six of those points, all coming from her inside post play.
When Burr and her mates did not can the initial shot, they crashed the offensive glass. “We didn’t do a good job of rebounding defensively,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan. “We didn’t box out well, and they were sometimes getting three and four offensive rebounds.”
Irwin had 15 points for the Marauders, and Cassie Beaver finished with 11 in the defeat.
