Norwich 51, Unadilla Valley 21

NORWICH – Norwich was awarded four forfeits against undermanned Unadilla Valley, and came home with its seventh win of the season on senior recognition night.

The Tornado (7-3) established control of the match early on break a 6-6 tie with wins by Frankie Garcia (125), Tanner Cummings (130), and Matt Thompson (135). Damian Marvin all but sealed the win with a 4-2 decision over Cody Marcinko, and Cody Bradbury (171) picked up a first-period pin in the night’s final matchup.

Marvin edged Cody Marcinko taking a 4-0 lead at the outset, and Garcia earned a pinfall over Dustin Badger. “That was a good win for Damian, and he looked good on his feet,” said Norwich coach Joe Downey. “Frankie getting a pin was a real surprise. We thought it would be close; it was a another quality win for him”

Zach Montgomery (160), a sectional place-winner last season, won by pin in the first period for UV, Tyler Olsen (119) earned a pin, and Dylan Aikins (145) scored a reversal and back points in the final 15 seconds to edge the Tornado’s Eli Oliver, 13-8.

Norwich competes in the Ilion Tournament this weekend. UV will participate in the Ross Cordell Tournament at Oneonta Friday and Saturday.
