Norwich 52, Seton Catholic Central 46
NORWICH – Hannah Runyon hit four free throws in the final 14 seconds to seal Norwich’s first win over Seton Catholic Central in nine years, Friday at Norwich High School.
Runyon had a career-high 27 points, and carried the offensive load in the first half scoring 18 of her team’s 24 points to stake NHS to a four-point advantage.
“It is really nice to have a player like Hannah. When everything else breaks down, she can pick us up,” said Norwich coach Josh Bennett.
The rest of the Norwich offense came to life in a 20-point third quarter in which the host team grew its lead to as many as 12 points. Hailey Dietrich bucketed the first two baskets of the third quarter, Bryn Loomis scored three baskets, and Cassie Sutton spotted up for two 15-foot baskets from the right wing.
The Saints clawed back into the game in the fourth on the strength of foul shooting. Seton was 8-for-12 from the foul line, and after Carolyn Gosney’s layup with 2:35 left, was within two points with just over 2 1/2 minutes to play.
