OXFORD – Mad Agnes, the trio internationally famous for their fusion of pop, folk, and exquisite, classical contrapuntal harmonies, is returning to the 6 On The Square (6OTS) stage Saturday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. Mad Agnes performed there 4 years ago, on the auspicious occasion of 6OTS’ opening weekend in 2007. With just a touch of fun and humor, their show invokes memories of Fairport Convention and Renaissance. Now this is Mad Agnes’ final year of touring together, as they’ve decided it’s time to move on to other projects. So audiences heed this advice, you have this lucky opportunity to see them one more time.
Mad Agnes is Margo Hennebach, Adrienne Jones, and Mark Saunders. Each member arrived at the trio from a staggering list of solo accomplishments, including songwriting competitions, and recordings. Multi-instrumentalists all, Hennebach is classically trained in piano, Jones is self-taught on guitar and bass, and Saunders adds color with a vintage mandolin and subtle electronic processing on his guitar. The sound can be full as a concert hall or delicate as three voices singing a cappella.
