SHERBURNE – It’s time to pull out and brush off the green again this year. Organizers of Sherburne’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade are well into the planning stages for the annual event, having lined up participants, selected a grand marshall and scheduled fundraising activities.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the village and organizers hope to make it a memorable one. Newly appointed Grand Marshall Lloyd Baker will join the past nine Grand Marshals who will be invited to ride on a special float.
The list of participants in the procession keeps growing, and to date includes three bagpipe groups. New to the lineup is the New York State Corrections Emerald Society. Returning favorites include the Hobart Pipe and Drum Corps, the Edward P. Maloney Memorial Pipe Band, the Claddagh Ring Dancers and the Johnston School of Irish Dance.
“The 2010 parade had over 50 groups participate and the committee hopes to increase that number,” said Theresa Mastro, co-organizer. Last minute participants are always welcome to join the line-up the day of the parade, she said.
