Al Gore is the driver who refuses to stop to ask directions.
“Honey, we were supposed to be in Syracuse ten hours ago. The last sign we passed said Cincinnati five miles ahead.”
“Relax, dear. You can’t believe every sign you read. I know we’re on the right road.”
The driver won’t ask for directions because this would show he was wrong. His ego cannot take that. I think this is why Al Gore insists the record cold spells and snowfalls are evidence of global warming. Just as the heat waves were. Many glaciers are growing. But Al tells us they prove the earth is warming. Just as the glaciers melting were.
In other words, his mind is made up. We have global warming. Anything that happens – ANYTHING! – is evidence of global warming. Welcome to Cincinnati.
My mind is made up, don’t confuse me with facts is a laugh line. It is also reality. Various influence peddlers fall victim to it. They build careers on theories. If facts come along to spoil the theories they cling more fiercely to the faulty theories. They have to. They have staked their careers on them. They maybe make lots of money in the process. So they cannot afford to say “The new facts show I was wrong.”
