Oxford 53, Greene 50

OXFORD – Oxford survived four Greene shot attempts in the last 15 seconds that would have tied the game or given the Trojans the lead to win its final game before sectional play on Thursday night.

Justin Schray hit one foul shot with 8.2 seconds remaining after the Trojans missed a pair of three-point shots and one inside shot attempt. Greene inbounded the ball after Schray’s made free throw, and Evan Moxley’s three ball at the buzzer took a full circle around the rim before spinning out.

“We had a few defensive lapses and more turnovers than we wanted, but other than that, as a unit, I felt we played well offensively, we shared it well, and moved the ball on offense,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis.

Oxford clung to a narrow lead throughout the fourth quarter getting a timely basket or free throw when it appeared Greene had the momentum.

Sam Adams’ offensive rebound putback for Greene with 4:47 left and hit a spot-up jumper as the Oxford lead closed to 49-46. Oxford’s Booker Davis drew a foul and hit one foul shot on the next possession, and Davis added a layup off a nice bounce pass from Schray that moved the lead back to six

Dan Treadwell found Adams for a layup, and Moxley drained two free throws leaving Greene two points short, 52-50.
