SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville Central School Board of Education is poised to adopt a tentative budget Monday that calls for the elimination of 13 jobs and no raises for the superintendent and assistant superintendent.

Governor Andrew Cuomo’s executive budget plan would have cut $1.6 million in state aid to Sherburne-Earlville schools. It is uncertain whether the proposed budget agreed to by leaders of the state’s legislature and the Governor earlier this week further adjusted that amount. Chenango County’s nine districts, in total, stood to lose nearly $7.3 million.

S-E’s budget, estimated at $29.5 million, is an increase of 1.66 percent and would call for an average tax levy increase of 1.90 percent. Reserves dedicated to it are $1 million.

District taxpayers will have an opportunity to learn more about the budget plan at the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the elementary school library. A public hearing is scheduled at 7 p.m. May 9 in the high school auditorium.
