NORWICH – Chenango County has a new claim to fame. It can now say it’s home to the maker of the country’s number one selling yogurt.
Agro Farma announced yesterday that its signature brand, Chobani Greek-style yogurt, has risen above its competition to take the coveted number one spot in the category.
“This is a very exciting moment for us. I’m so proud of how far we’ve come since Chobani first hit store shelves three years ago and the people on our team who made it happen,” Agro Farma founder Hamdi Ulukaya said.
Since being introduced to the market in 2007, Chobani has taken supermarkets by storm. It quickly became the number one selling Greek-style yogurt in the country and claimed the number one slot in the overall yogurt category in the Northeast. Now, they’ve done the seemingly impossible – eclipsing products made by Dannon and Yoplait to become the country’s top selling brand, based on a report by SymphonyIRI.
The Chicago-based market research firm also recently named Chobani among the top consumer packaged goods brands in the food and beverage industry for 2010 in its annual New Product Pacesetters report.
