NORWICH – Unison is hiring. The company, which is a division of GE Aviation, currently has between 20 and 25 positions open, according to Director of Operations Gary Cummings.
Cummings discussed the company’s growth and job openings last Wednesday, when he addressed members of the Tri-County Young Professionals during a luncheon held by the networking group at Bohemian Moon in Norwich.
Last summer, the manufacturer announced its intention to create 50 to 75 new jobs within the next year.
“We’re well on our way to do that,” Cummings reported. They are currently hiring everything from engineers to hourly positions on the manufacturing floor.
The site manager, who has worked for the aerospace systems manufacturer since 1978, explained that the company has moved away from a traditional manufacturing model and is now concentrating on developing self-directed work teams. This model allows people on the production floor the latitude to find greater efficiency. Management’s role is to provide them with the needed resources and then “get out of their way,” he explained.
