Greene 12, B-G 1
GREENE – Greene advanced to its third straight Midstate Athletic Conference championship game handily beating Bainbridge-Guilford Monday in the league tournament semifinals.
Caitlin Willis hit a two-run double as part of the Trojans’ five-run second to give the home team early momentum. “We take the MAC championship game as an important step in our program, and three in a row says a lot for the work we’ve done the past three years,” said Trojans coach Rick Smith, whose club meets Afton in the finals a third straight year. “We’ve had a lot of people do some nice things, and it’s a great game to play.”
Taylor Ellis helped Greene extend the lead hitting a two-run homer in the fourth. Winning pitcher Rebecca Hanrahan was equally tough on the mound and at the plate. She was a perfect 4-for-4 to raise her season batting average over .650, and she struck out 14 and walked just one in giving up three B-G hits. “Rebecca got a lot of her strikeouts late in the game to make some big outs,” Smith said. “We had the lead, and I asked (Becca) to challenge the hitters and attack late in the game.”
Ellis and Willis each finished 2-for-4 at the plate.
B-G scored one in the second to take the early lead. Becky Ives doubled and scored on a Greene error.
