Class B Meet

WINDSOR – Norwich’s boys finished 3 1/2 points behind Waverley to place second in the Class B track and field meet Thursday afternoon.

Norwich’s runner-up performance matches the best finish by a Norwich team over the past 27 years. Norwich last won a Class B team title in 1984. “I am proud of our performances, and we had some big PRs (personal records) all the way through,” said Norwich coach Paul Sims. “Of course we really wanted to win it.”

Norwich’s 400-meter relay team of Patrick Taylor, David Layman, Josh Favaloro, and Morgan Crawford set a new school record timing 44.43 to place second. It breaks the mark set during the 1992 season. Norwich added a record in the 1,600-meter relay to also place second. The team of David Jones, Nate Ashton, Max Morse, and Murray finished in 3:30.31 to lower their own record by nearly half a second.

Jon Foulds had Norwich’s lone victory on the day. He won the 110-meter hurdles by two-hundreths of a second timing 15.27. Taylor was second in the triple jump with a personal-best 42-1. Murray added seconds in the 400- and 800-meter races, and Kegan Levesque was second in the shot put (40-7).

Norwich’s girls placed seventh out of 12 teams. Lexi Perez was second in the triple jump (32-8 1/4), and Cleo Daoud was second in the 200-meter dash (26.71).

Norwich competes in the Section IV state meet qualifier next Thursday at Binghamton Alumni Stadium.
