SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville Central School administrators and faculty presented interdisciplinary curriculum projects and described new performance tracking and intervention strategies to members of the board of education Monday.

Much of the work, ongoing through the school year and over the summers, address upcoming changes in New York State Dept. of Education standards. Building principals have chosen new materials to line up with state literacy requirements as well as incorporated combined studies programs.

“Our goals for next year are how to use test results to track kids through the years, how to be on the same page with other teachers and, not only look at how often we test, but what we test for,” said Elementary School Principal John Douchinsky.

New English Language Arts standards call for literacy across content areas, said Jolene Emhof, Middle School principal. A faculty guide book series, called “Teach Like A Champion,” has been implemented to help teachers be on the same page and share instructional strategies.

“We are trying to grow the interest in how good this book is to get teachers interested in using them,” she said, adding that a group of faculty and administrators are currently choosing the best dozen chapters on content and instruction to share with all.
