NORWICH – It’s an timeless American automotive classic – unveiled for the first time by the Ford Motor Company in 1964 at the New York World’s Fair and originally conceived as the “working man’s Thunderbird.” This weekend, it will once again be the center of attention as Smith Ford LLC prepares to host its 6th annual Mustang Rally at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the dealership’s 175 East Main St. Supercenter location.
Approximately 160 Ford Mustangs rolled their way into the dealership’s lot for last year’s customer appreciation day, and Smith Ford General Manager Will Tyrrell said he hopes to see over 200 Mustangs on display this time around.
“You’ll find models from 1964 right up to 2012; cars that cost $1,000 right up to $60,000,” said Tyrrell. “That’s the neat thing about it – these are all customer-owned cars. It’s all about customer appreciation.”
The event – which typically draws anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000 people – will feature food by Tuller’s Catering, entertainment by country and classic rockers Sundown and fireworks by the American Fireworks Company.
And, of course, a wide variety of Ford Mustangs.
