NORWICH – Two of Norwich’s finest retired this year after 20 years of service to the community. On Saturday, their commitment and dedication were celebrated with a dinner in their honor.
Deputy Chief Dale C. Smith, Jr. and Sergeant Craig L. Berry began their careers with the City of Norwich Police on the same day in March of 1991. Berry retired on April 15 at the rank of sergeant; Smith as a deputy chief on May 28. Each had 20 years with the department.
The two were the guests of honor Saturday at a retirement celebration sponsored by the Norwich Police Benevolent Association. Hon. Lelan G. Brookins presided as master of ceremonies at the event, which was held at the American Legion in Norwich.
“I hate to see these guys go,” said Norwich Police Chief Joseph Angelino, who praised Smith for his service, dedication and loyalty; and Berry for the precision, expertise and confidence with which he did his job.
