NORWICH – A single-engine aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at Lt. Warren Eaton Airport after its onboard electrical system failed.
The plane, a six-passenger Piper Saratoga, was reportedly en route to Cape Cod when it experienced the electrical problem. It was directed to the Norwich airport by the Boston Air Traffic Control Center. Boston Center alerted the Chenango County 911 Center to the situation at 12:43 p.m.
The plane was already on the ground when the first emergency responders arrived on the scene at approximately 12:54.
Neither of the two people on board the aircraft were injured.
According to county officials, the airport runway is closed pending the arrival of the FAA.
The Norwich Fire Department, Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, Chenango County Emergency Management Office and county airport officials were on the scene.
