NORWICH – News anchor Steve Craig will soon be taking on a new role. This one won’t be in broadcasting, however. Instead, the long-time television newsman will be stepping in as head of the county’s lead business advocacy group, Commerce Chenango.
Commerce Chenango’s board of directors made the announcement Thursday. Craig will serve as the organization’s president and CEO, the position previously held by Maureen Carpenter.
Carpenter, who spent four years at the chamber’s helm, left in April after accepting a position with the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce in Kentucky. Sewain Conklin has served as interim director since her departure, and will continue to do so until Craig steps into his new role on Aug. 1.
“Steve’s breadth of knowledge of the area, vision for Chenango County’s future, and passion for improving the economy and quality of life in the county were just a few of the reasons that he has been chosen for this position,” said Commerce Chenango Board Member Kevin Walsh, who chaired the selection committee.
“I am confident that he will represent not only Commerce Chenango, but Chenango County as a whole, in an impressive manner.”
