‘Wings of Hope’ tree dedicated to Sherburne Historical Park

SHERBURNE – On Saturday, the Relay for Life team “Wings of Hope” dedicated a Japanese Lilac Tree to the Historical Park in Sherburne. The beautiful tree was planted in memory of people that have lost the battle to cancer and to remember those still fighting and those that have won the battle.

The Japanese lilac tree was donated to the team by Jerry and Sons County Line Tree Farm. A beautiful plaque donated by Jane Mulligan in memory of her sister-in-law Vicki Mulligan, who lost her courageous battle with cancer, has been placed on the log cabin in the park.

Inscribed on the plaque is a poem written by Lila M. Webb:

This tree:

This tree stands to honor those

who fight each day to live,

Story Continues Below Adverts

And to those who lost but are not forgotten.

Because they teach us about strength

and courage in the face of despair,

We see their valiant tenacity

And the value of hope and prayer.

Pause by this tree planted for them.

Give thanks as you are standing here,

Think of them, they know the secrets

of how to hold life dear.
