SMITHVILLE FLATS – When Dave Westergaard passed away on July 20, he left behind his wife of 16 years, Alline, and five small children. The 54-year old Oxford man had been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer just 6 weeks before.
The unexpected loss of the once vibrant Army veteran has left his family reeling both emotionally and financially. To help them get through this difficult time, friends have organized a benefit to raise money for the Westergaard’s. The event will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Seebers Tavern, 5250 State Hwy. 41 in Smithville Flats.
“We are asking your help to make this a success as the family has incurred unexpected bills from this sudden loss,” said Janice Fiene of Seebers.
According to organizers, the event will include a Chinese auction, poker run, bake sale, door prizes and a DJ. A suggested donation of $10 per person will be collected at the door. Children under 10 are free.
“All donations are greatly appreciated,” said Fiene. Checks can be made out to Alline Westergaard.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the day, and live band, Cousin Jake, will perform from 6 to 10 p.m. following the benefit.
